Pump head
“Yang Cheng” refers to the height to which a water pump lifts water. It is commonly represented by the English letter H and expressed in meters (M) or other units of length. The strict definition of Yang Cheng is: the increase in energy per unit weight of liquid after passing through the water pump. It is well known that the energy of a liquid can have several forms, namely potential energy, kinetic energy, and pressure energy. In the production and use of agricultural drainage pumps, the most common is the increase in the water's potential energy; for example, lifting water from below to a certain height in a channel increases its potential energy.
Generally, a drainage pump draws water up through a suction pipe, and through the action of the impeller, the water is pressurized into a pressure discharge pipe and finally delivered to a water pool. The concept of water pump head is sometimes easily misunderstood and should be distinguished. First, it is necessary to distinguish between the water pump topographic head and the total water pump head. The topographic head refers to the vertical height from the lower water surface to the pressure discharge outlet of the water pump. The total water pump head is the water pump topographic head plus the energy loss caused by the water flowing in the pipeline. This energy loss is divided into two parts: head loss due to friction along the pipe and head loss due to local resistance. Head loss due to friction along the pipe refers to the frictional loss caused by flow along the length of the pipe. Head loss due to local resistance refers to the energy loss caused by pipe fittings such as bends and valves.
